I just read a post that said the minimum age to be a member of Blue Devils B corps is now 18.  Is this true?  I was curious, and even on the Blue Devils A website, it indicates 17-21 form members of the A corps.     Even though the vast majority of members of finalist corps are over 18, there are still many, many  exceptions.

1.  How many of the corps have an 18+ rule, and stick to it without exception

2. How many have an 18+ "guideline" but allow exceptions

Not sure about the other questions, but this is from the 'Join" links on their website

BDB 18+ info:

https://bluedevils.org/programs/audition.php?code=BDB

https://bluedevils.org/programs/faq.php?code=bdbparents

BDC 14-17 info:

https://bluedevils.org/programs/audition.php?code=BDC

I see those, so it's confirmed that BDB is 18+, but I can't find anything on the requirement for the "A" corps.  It's hard to believe that BDB would be 18+ but the A corps would take anyone under 18..........also, I was/am curious as to how many others have the 18+ requirement, and if it is a hard line, or exceptions......also, today's world and legal world might be making it increasingly difficult for a corps to act in "loco parentis" for members who are minors (under 18).....BDB is likely the first (and maybe only)  "open class" corps to have an 18+ age requirement....

Yes....and what is so strange is I can't find any age thing currently on the BDA site...just BDB....it would be very strange for BDB to be all 18+, but BDA to still have members under that.  I'm a "fogie".......the 1979 Cadets had a snare drummer who made the line at age 12......and he hung in, so he has multiple rings.....I would be curious if anyone else has a firm "18+ only" policy.......

I don't know, but perhaps this is just a way to manage between the B and the C corps?

I suspect the A corps doesn't have any such rule so it can have whatever talent it wants (understanding, of course, that the A corps age skews older and that many younger performers aren't going to fit). Maybe?

thats my hunch. to create a clear this corps is for this, this corps is for that guidelines.

I still don't "get it', though.  In the past, even though BDB certainly had many more 18+ kids in than many other open corps and kids that even age out there,  they also still had many below the age of 18.    I don't think BDC will ever change, as that is a very young group.  The only thing that I can think of is this.  If BDA overall attracts an excess number of talented candidates,  they could possibly have enough 18+ kids to fill BDB, and if they did that, perhaps actually have enough talent to field two finalist corps eventually.   However, somebody stated that BDB is having trouble filling out with the new 18+ age requirement.  I guess we'll see.  However, they might have created something not intentional.  Let's say you have a kid that is in the 15-17 age range.  The kid is a competent performer and quick learner, but doesn't quite have it to make the "A" corps.  Now, if that 18+ rule is hard and fast for the B corps, they are out there, too.  That kid is not going to march with the C corps, but they are highly likely going to either go elsewhere or sit out.  I am still not sure, and again, I have never seen an open corps with an 18+ requirement.....and as far as I know, even though most of the World Class corps' members are 18 or older, few, if any, hold hard and fast to 18+, and in fact the majority of WC finalist corps have at least a small number of members 17 or under, and there are a larger number in the non-finalists.

If I recall correctly, BDC isn't the baby corps anymore. BDB is now just another BD. BDC is what BDB used to be and now there is another corps for the little kids. They also lifted the geography restriction on auditioning.
