wolfgang Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Does anyone have stories of gale force winds and drum corps, either rehearsal or performance? Quote
KVG_DC Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Watching that stream in Utah was crazy. I think BK had some props on wheels that were basically sails headed back to Denver on their own. Quote
LoveKathyG Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Finals in Jackson MS. 1993 I think. There were fireworks at the end of awards, which were set up on the visitor side of the stadium. It rained off and on that evening with quite a bit of wind. No one saw that at least one of the fireworks stands had fallen down, and when it was set off, the rocket flew not in the air but directly into the field where the corps were still in formation. Thankfully, no one was hit, but it was close. It landed between two corps. In my mind, it came closest to Cadets, but I wouldn't swear to it. Quote
Chief Guns Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Closest I have witnessed live was at the San Bernardino CA show in 2019. BD had just started their opener, where they had the CG toss rifles from behind the doors and they catch them in front. At that moment, a huge gust of wind came thru, and several rifles went off course bouncing off the props. It was pretty scary and dangerous. How no one got seriously hurt I will never know. Those rogue rifles came within inches of hitting several members. Quote
Brian Tuma Posted April 8 Posted April 8 I don’t remember the year but a show in Normal, IL got shut down because of weather. It was one of those midwestern storms where it becomes eerily quiet and the sky turns green before all hell breaks loose. Frightening Quote
