camel lips
I have tried the facial hair thing a couple of times, but i don't like playing with it. I play contra and for me while it doesn't get in the way, it limits how good of a sound i can produce, especially in the lower register. PLus I play on a gold mouthpiece and that already slides around easily on my face. With the help of facial hair it makes it more difficult to get a good seal on the mouthpiece, which is what leads me to have some of these problems. I was concerned about getting that "good seal" that you were talking about. I was just wondering if any sop players had a problem with it. *Euph God*
In BD 02's video there is one guy with a freaking bush playing trumpet. I think at BD you can have piercings and you don't have to shave. whatever they still rock.

About the worst of it is a raw upper lip, seal is rarely a problem.
ducttapedgerbil
If you are playing all day, every day then it might be best to grow it out. The reason is that shaving every day will make the skin around your mouth really tender. This could lead to getting a split lip which really sucks; still have a scar. We used to grow our beards all summer and then shave after prelims.

cheezedogg 23
I don't have any problem with raw upper lip from shaving. But i know what ur talking about. Some people do. I've got the ingrown natural old west kinda face. I could cut my lip shaving and woudln't feel it much, and would still be able to play fine.
