Banger3b
Some that come to mind are The dude from Everybody Loves the Blues, Blue Devils, 1983 Eric Shadeen (hopefully i didn't butcher that too bad) Eric is also featured on the Blue Devil Alumni CD in 'Everybody Loves the Blues'. Baritone Soloist Monk in Pictures at an Exhibition, SCV 1986 or 87 Jim Nordin? (soloist in Russian Christmas Music that year) Jim is also a 2-time Renegades bari. Scerpella
heh this one may be quite premature, but I'm loving the Cadets' baritone solo in Bouree!I also love the bari solo from Bohemian Rhapsody Madison '78 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That was two guys. Perry Smith and Dave Ramthun.
Scerpella
Dan Scerpella Kilties 05 Hey I can dream cant I???? B) BTW I do a mean lip trill myself!! My favorite bari soloist is the guy from 73 St Andrews Bridgemen during Chicago's "Free". He could wail and trill like no one Ive heard. I'll be sure to compare Pooh Bear to him at DCA. Fran Haring
Some of my faves, off the top of my head: Two names from a bygone era: Bill Hightower and John Simpson. Two absolutely awesome players, considering the tinker-toy brass instruments they were playing on in the early 1960s. Doug Kenyon should probably be on anyone's "best of" list. Ruben Ariola, now with the NY Skyliners Alumni corps. He gets my vote for the loudest baritone player in the history of drum corps (you gotta hear this guy bring the heat!!!!), with a great tone and technique to match. A not-as-well-known name from the 1970s: Dennis Dewey. A great bari player with the (then) Garfield Cadets. Fran
pitn0926
I love the little baritone duet in Madison's '99 show. Pretty tight lip trill from the upper guy.
TheMoonlightChef
My all time favorites are 1994 Magic of Orlando -- the 2nd one (that gets the close-up on the broadcast -- right before drum solo). 1996 Hawthorne Caballeros (Spanish Fantasy) -- Andy Grilk and Mike Winfield. Oh and one of the guys in 1993 Blue Devils during Strawberry Soup that does a lip trill that BLOWS MY MIND -- during the rifle toss. (I'm a geek). And any SCV Baritone in the late 90's... Ok, I am a sucker for baritone players... especially my husband.
