Loved those Canadian corps of the late 60s and early 70s -- went against them every weekend.

DEL's color pres. company front, ONTARIO sent a chill up your spine -- even if your flag's colors were red, white & blue. The sunburst in 72 or 73 was another great memory.

Canada's "Green Machine", the Toronto Optimists, were a great corps in the 60s. Their whaling horns in TEMPTATION is something I still whistle.

How could you forget CADETS La SALLE? They were a force in the early 70s. Remember JEZZEBELLE and their closer with the bumble bee solo from Jean LeBlanc.

Miss those Canadian corps. The closest I've seen since was Les Etoiles.

The first corps on the list should rightfully be Preston Scout House, though few on this board would ever have seen them compete.

They were visually spectacular and musically ahead of the times, using keyboards and Bb instruments in the late '50s.

Today there is an alumni corps with the sweetest sounding brass section in its class.

I'm a little partial to St. Johns, but I guess we didn't make the cut for this poll. <_<

The poll question is far too inclusive. It would be better to ask about a more specific group of Canadian corps, it's not like asking "Which is your favorite Canadian baseball team", where the choices are far more limited.

Asking about Canadian Corps and leaving out past champions like L'Insolite (Christian Brunet was a rock star in '88), Academie Musicale (placing 13th in open class brass as an A/60 corps), and Scout House (they made records, for pete's sake!) shows the question is better asked as an open-ended one.

It is a good topic, though. Don't get me wrong. There's always been a unique flavor and style to the Canajun corps. Maybe it's the post-retreat beer tents B) :mmm: I loved touring there!

Good Selection!

My Dad used to compete against Scout House back in His marching days, and He always told me about them.

I still have some old 78's of them, and the hornlne sounds like it could compete today.

I came up a little after their demise and always wished I could have seen them :)

I am going with DeLasalle...just remembering the A-I Open Finals and all those horn players passing out after Joelle cut off the last note.

There were some great corps that came out of Canada, powerhouses to be sure, but my favorite Canadian corps has to be the Alberta All-Girls. Fred Sanford taught them and they played some incredibly exposed parts - for those of you who came after the tick system was abolished, an incredibly exposed part is when an entire line will play a single tap out of nowhere and not get ticked for it - and they were doing it at these ponderously slow tempos. Try it, it aint easy. I saw them years after I left the sport and they had become*gulp* a band and were competing in my home town, so I sat with my pie(pizza for some of you) and shed one for the days when they weren't all underage to me. :(
