DPEmerald
I also found this one, not sure if I posted it yet.
Puppet
I still love the old cadet style uniforms. Found this shot from 1966 St. Joe's Patron Cadets during an evening performance. And yes, they are spinning those flags! Puppet

GGarrett
When women were women! and men were frightened... and sheep were lonely? OK ... OK... bad bad... I keed I keed. Wasn't that back when they actually referred to those as "pikes?" I remember being n the practice field and our guard instructor yelling: "Pikes...take it again!" but at some point it changed over to "flags." Whatever... that pike/flag in that pic from '66 looks like it could indeed take out an eye... or um... KILL SOMEONE.

Not sure about the ones in the picture but we used "pikes" like them when I marched drill team/color guard (prior to drum corps.) The tips were wooden and would occasionally break off when we'd hit them on the ground, flying up into our faces. elayes
Like, Vickie, my memories of the change are a bit hazy LOL! But this I do remember: Shirley Stratton had quit teaching after 1980 and Stacey/Stephanie Lynde had taken over along with Jay Murphy, so it's safe to say the ideas for the change started there. It was a HUGE change. The traditional cadet-style uniforms were easy to "hide" in. They weren't form fitting and one girl looked much like the next. No more in 1981. Teenaged girls all over Concord were suddenly much more concerned about their figures! We did get an interim change in the form of the winter guard uniforms: And I don't recall scuba divers or flight attendants coming to mind but I do remember references to "seal butts"!
