elayes
If Shirley left, she came back to teach the guard up until the 84 season. Let's see if I can remember the names: Front row Far left - Lee?? Front row 2nd from left - Dawn 2nd from right Trish Deb on the far right Behind Deb is Patty (Todd Tanji's wife) Next to Patty is Deana Williams Behind Patty, I want to say JoEllen?? Next is Beatrice Patty Furzer (sp) Laura Brown Kelley Ann behind Laura?? I don't recal why Shirley didn't teach in 1981 but the yearbook lists her has assisting Jerry Seawright as Director. And let's see if I can add any names to the list: Front row Far left - LeeBetween Dawn and I you can see Connie Corkran aka Suds in the second row Front row 2nd from left - DawnBetween Dawn and Trish you can see (I think) Beth Doebler (I should know my own sister, huh?) and Deb Thomas 2nd from right Trish Deb Rogerson on the far rightBetween Deb R. and Patty you can see Sondra Behind Deb is Patty (Todd Tanji's wife) Next to Patty is Deana WilliamsTo the left of Deana looks like Kate Hill's ear Behind Patty, I want to say JoEllen?? Yes! Next is BeatriceI'm pretty sure that is Tracy McDonald between Trish and Patty's faces Patty Furzer (sp) Laura Brown Kelley Ann behind Laura??Behind Kelley Ann is half of (I think) Peggy Guare's face Good memory, TrainWreck. And you are...? Edited October 18, 2007 by elayes
lindap
Paris, France, 1977, Alberta All Girls under the Eiffel Tower. Far away. Closer. And closer. The short drum major with long hair is me from Ontario. The tall drum major with the short hair is Pam from California. East meets west, south meets north. Good memories. Before sending me over to the international forum, consider that I only have a few photos left. Thanks for letting me share.

Puppet
Like, Vickie, my memories of the change are a bit hazy LOL! But this I do remember: Shirley Stratton had quit teaching after 1980 and Stacey/Stephanie Lynde had taken over along with Jay Murphy, so it's safe to say the ideas for the change started there. It was a HUGE change. The traditional cadet-style uniforms were easy to "hide" in. They weren't form fitting and one girl looked much like the next. No more in 1981. Teenaged girls all over Concord were suddenly much more concerned about their figures! We did get an interim change in the form of the winter guard uniforms: And I don't recall scuba divers or flight attendants coming to mind but I do remember references to "seal butts"! Speaking of "pikes," those predated the flags in the St. Joe photo. Pikes were wooden, those flag poles were aluminum and what made them heavy were actually the material of the flags themselves. As to cadet style versus any other uniform - uniformity was the key, wasn't it? It was back in the pre DCI days. The young women in our color guard in the early seventies were just as concerned about their appearance as any woman in any age before and after - but when it came to donning a uniform their presence on the field was one of quasi military bearing that befitted the times - they marched, not danced. I may be repeating myself in this thread but here's an example of what I miss most in drum corps today. The color presentation: I'll take precision over prancing any day. lindap
Pictures from Europe? Good memories from 1977. Time for me to get back to North America. I scanned the contest program from Bowling Green. Fading memories for me here. 1972 program. Belleville Black Knights.

Tansea
1972 program. Belleville Black Knights. Check out those funky doubles!! I love that stuff. I remember Larry McCormick coming up with all kinds of funky stuff for Cavies, back in the day...you would almost expect to find those strapped to a horse.
