Jocko the Wonder Llama
I think so. That looks like Mike Shaw on the left. It would have been his first year with SCV.
Jay B
OK I'll help get us there. Here is a shot of the 84 Lancers snare line. These guys could play and were great kids to teach as well. Beautiful snares. Premiers?
Kaboom
Jingle sticks !!! Is this from 1979? 1978 - Note snare drum straps. In 1979, snares used a harness. Kaboom!
84BDsop
Beautiful snares. Premiers? Well, the tenors are (you can see the logo), so I'd presume so...I don't remember anyone in the top 12 -- certainly not a top line like 27th - having a mixed line. 84BDsop
That's 1985. I bet both statements hold though. Yeah....the givaway's the colored cymbal, the dark jacket (red), and the cross sash.
drumno5
Beautiful snares. Premiers? Yes, Premier. If you open the photo to full size you can clearly see the "P" logo on the front of the 2nd drum from the left. The shape of the lugs and the snare guard are also giveaways. regards, Fred O. reallyoldfrt
Hi. I'm kinda a newbie on these boards, but I've been in drum corps since 1948. I have one of those "trivia" type brains, and some training in the history field, so I once tried to write a history of drum corps, but many others have done a much better job of it that I ever could. So much for that ambition. During my research I tried to reach an understanding of some of the murky events that have occurred over the years. One of these was the "Great 1957 VFW Finals dust up", in Miami. I noticed that the subject came up on this thread about a year ago, (post # 17970 to be exact). The poster brought up a few things that I had not been able to unearth before. I HAVE a bit of info from my own research, and wonder if there is a more appropriate thread on which to discuss it? Or should I start my own? Or, is it even right, or of any interest to anyone to dredge up this, and a lot of other stuff, (e.g. The Reveries 1966 sit down at the VFW), and rehash it all over again? Wattya think? Gil
