some old corps photos

While we're doing flaglines . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the photo of Americanos guard, one of very few I've seen in color. I spent many years in a gym like this, didn't take photos, didn't want the camera flash interrupt their spin. There was no floor tarp, just the sound of equipment in hand and feet on the hardwood floor. Summer was a completely different experience, marching on many levels of grass. Did you know I marched on astroturf first time ever late summer 72? I tripped, oh my

Never saw frenchies like this before, being a former french horn player I had to post it. From the Commodores site.

I'm intrigued too. Frenchies were a beautiful sound when combined with mellophones and fluglehorns while outdoors.

I think that is our very own Tommy Boy!

Yeah, that's me. Not a great pic, if I do say so myself. I'm looking down, hands are bad, the whistle is hanging funny...

That pic was on the cover of DCI Today in the Spring/Summer, too. Which I didn't see until second season, cause I didn't march 1st season in 87.

They were from Olds, I think ... Her's a pic of one from the Des Plaines Vanguard BITD.

Funny, I don't think that many corps used Mellos, French & Flugelhorns - just not enough bodies. We did do Flugels and Mellos then went to all Mellos a year later.

But that was back pre DCI when great hornlines only had about 30 or so players.

The Commodores pic above is of the round model Whaley-Royce French Horns.

The DPV shot is a later-model Smith mellophone.

The GR photo is a classic !!!
