BobFieldsDCW
Visual and music programming very much patterned after last year's Crown program. I just worry about Crossmen (at this point) because they seem pretty far behind and there are some obvious LARGE staging and other issues which will take a good deal of fixing to get past. BobFieldsDCW
It's been a while since I checked in. I too was at the Gettysburg Show but did not see the similarity to Carolina Crown. If it is the Rock and Roll you also say that years ago THE COLTS used to play some great rock and roll shows as well. The only similarity I saw was that Carolina Crown didnt move very fast last year, kept those forms pretty much in place and played LOUD! The Crossmen will do just fine this year as soon as they gear up. They have had quite a number of kids that have had to go home due to injuries just like the Cadets have (see the YEA webpage). The Cadets also got a weeks headstart. It is very hard to compare the two corps at this point since the show is not nearly done. They still have another week to go at Kutchers Sports Camp in Montecello before they head to Virginia. The Crossmen have one thing that Carolina Crown does not have....30 great years of tradition! Happy Birthday Crossmen. This may well turn out to be one of their best shows ever. Why not wait and see instead of throwing stones at the hard working kids? DrumCorpsMom
Bob, your two posts totally contradict each other, so can I pick which one I prefer? :) I loved Crown's show last year, and although I disagree with the comment about the similarities, I think it is a compliment. At least they are not singing into mics! I haven't seen the drill, but know it is far from finished. The music is terrific and I can't wait to see the whole production on the field! BobFieldsDCW
SORRY...Try to remember how to answer posts. Been over a year since I was on the last time. bob <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The first post was someones elses comment. I thought both corps did great at the Gettyburg Show. Shakey start for Crossmen but they pulled it together quickly. They have a great horn line, drums under Darren Hazlett have that old time Crossmen flair. I liked Crown too but not the singing. Just wanted to comment that I didnt find any similarities at all between the two corps. I know that the Ballad will be a real winner and there are already talks of moving things around in the show. This is like the first coat of paint with that masterpiece yet to follow. Thanks Cathy. bob :)
George
I am finding it AMAZING that folks seem not to notice the pattern of similarities between Crowns show last year and this years Xmen program - seriously EVERYONE sitting around me was verbalizing the same thing - even the XMEN alumni were saying "I guess they hope Paradise will be this year's Bo Rap"
tubamann
The Crossmen have one thingthat Carolina Crown does not have....30 great years of tradition! Nope only 16 years..9 DCI finalist flags, a Div II title and DCI voting membership in 15 of those years. Not bad for a bunch of kids from Carolina, eh? I did. I love So Far Away & Paradise by the Dashboard Lights. I also loved Cavies show last year (which was a first for me) and always love SCV- Doesn't mean I see any similarities............. By the way I am biased and proud to admit it - don't you just love Crossmen's mellophone line :P
Blackstar
Crossmen show is very much patterned after last year's Crown show. Doesn't seem like a finalist-bound design. Honestly - the design level reminds me of an ok TOB band. I am sure the kids are working hard... and the long closer should prove popular as the summer rolls on... Someone owes Crown a franchise fee.. George, Are you insulting TOB or Crossmen?
