MikeN
The annual Interservice Academy Drum & Bugle Corps Championship was held this past Saturday night in Denver, CO. The show was held as an exhibition of the WGI Friendship Cup band competition at Highlands Ranch HS. Here's the recap (Name - GE Visual - GE Music - Visual Performance - Visual Ensemble - Color Guard - Brass Performance - Music Ensemble - Percussion Performance - Total Score)... NAME_ GEV GEM VPer VEns CG BPer MEns PPer Total USAFA 17.3 18.8 17.2 15.5 20 16.9 17.5 15.6 87.45 USNA_ 16.7 17.9 17.0 15.2 20 17.5 16.7 16.0 85.80 I can comment only on Navy's show. We presented a show called, "Groove". The opener was New York Voices "Baroque Samba" ala Xmen '90. The second tune was a jazz piano chart, "Baroque Impressions" by Cyrus Chestnut. This segued into an original drum solo, and then into "Moondance", by Van Morrison. The closer was "Now or Never", again by New York Voices. Thanks, Jeff Weir Civilian Director USNA D&B

MikeN
You guys suck. :P I'll tell you what, both Air Force and Navy have done *much* more diverse repertoires than just about any DCI corps I can think of, though. For Navy, Gladiator last year, and jazz this? :) Mike (U-S-N-A!)
skajerk
Dumb question... Do the Marines have a drum corps or is it considered to be part of the Navy's? Dumb question part deux... Does the Army have one? I'm assuming no, but that's why I'm asking.
MikeN
Dumb answer (just kidding!): Marines D&B is a professional unit made of (I think) enlisted troops. The US Naval Academy produces both Marine and Navy officers, so for the purposes of Academy D&B's, they're lumped together. Army doesn't have one per se. They have the Hellcats, but that's a much smaller unit. They don't have what we'd think of as a conventional D&B. The other Academy unit is the US Coast Guard Academy Windjammers, and they usually participate on the odd years when the competition is on the East coast. Once in a blue moon they'll make the trip West. Mike
skajerk
Thanks Mike. I kind of figured that about the Marines. But I didn't know about the Hellcats or Windjammers though.
