Libertyville Custer's Brigade

Well, they live on in a fashion; my daughter's junior high in Libertyville has a bass drum case for their one marching bass drum that belonged to Custer's Brigade; their name is stenciled on the side.

BTW, all those northern IL corps and no mention of the Scarlet Knights?... :P

The Grays Lake (later Gurnee) Scarlet Knights, an SAL corps in a three-corps SAL circuit which included the Morton Grove Cougars and the McHenry Viscounts They built steadily from the mid-1950s until their one great year: 1963. I saw them at East Troy's Galaxy of Stars on July 4, 1963 and was very impressed, and I recommended them for a big Memorial Day parade in 1964, but by then they had apparently had a complete turnover and I caught flak for their disheveled appearance.

Morton Grove became half of the one-year 1965 Chicago Spartans along with the St. Michael's Chi-Angels.
