mobrien
it is my understanding that more people have ESPN 2, as opposed to those who have PBS. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Since every major and minor market has a PBS affiliate, that's not really true. Anyone with a television in the US has the potential to watch a show on PBS. But since each PBS affiliate station manager has say over what they show and when they show it, it's turned the DCI telecast into something of a red-headed stepchild. Those who weren't personally interested or didn't think that it would appeal to the local market passed on the show. Some who used to show it lost interest when the pledge aspects of th broadcast became so dire (apparently DCI fans weren't getting the idea of helping to pay for the show via pledges). While I think it's sad that DCI has exchanged the company of Live from Lincoln Center and American Masters for the Spelling Bee championships and Lumber Jack competitions, at least everyone will be watching it at the same time, so there's a way to guage the actual viewership of the show, which will be a help in putting together possible corporate sponsorship down the road. neddy
If you're far enough north of the border to not receive any signals from the US, you don't get PBS, either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> not true, We ARE ABLE to receive pbs as part of our cable or satellite lineups but we DO NOT get ESPN at all!!! Yet another way for DCI to disregard Canada. I usually don't go off like this but I am very upset by the fact that the only way I can enjoy drum corps is through purchasing a season pass which is a crappy substitute for actually being able to attend a decent show or watch the broadcast on tv. I guess it is time to drop the I from DCI. <**>
Michael Boo
You're assuming there's no PBS station up there, either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's no assumption. PBS is an entity of the USA...with funding from the American government, grants and subscribers. Canada has their own public network. DCImonkey
You're assuming there's no PBS station up there, either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Public Broadcasting System? In Canadia? Hmmm Isn't that a government funded station? Is there PBS in Canada? I really don't know, but my gut tells me no. Oh and if you don't have ESPN2.... Call your cable company and GET IT like the rest of us. Otherwise, enjoy your friend's TV.
Michael Boo
not true, We ARE ABLE to receive pbs as part of our cable or satellite lineups... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I stand corrected then. A Canadian friend had told me the only way to get PBS shows in Canada was to live close enough to a US transmission antenna for a US city. My original statement, though, was in reference to getting it off the rooftop antenna from its original source of transmission. For enlightenment, is this something the entire country can now enjoy? How long has it been this way? Thanks for the info. Mike
