Drum Corps in Las Vegas

Recommended Posts

Las Vegas is a city of 1.8 million people that for the most part have moved here from all over the country. I would like to hear from you if you would be interested in starting a Corps here. We could start with just a general meeting and hope fully the word would spread. What a great place for a Drum Corps. There must be 1,000's of alumni thruout the city. Contact me at gdavis1000@hotmail.com if interested.

Yes there is a program starting in Reno--having the last I heard some success and they're building it slow. Las Vegas has within the last few years become much better in the world of marching band (having judged and designed for some bands up there)...so yes. It's not that bad in terms of finding talent.

Funding is always the "problem". The bottom line, if you will. Get that together FIRST, and build from there. And GO SLOW.

Unless of course a casino gives you a 2 million dollar budget and UNLV lets you use their facilities and, and, and.... :)

Having a DCI show in Vegas would be a good start.  One was suppose to happen in Reno back in july, but it didn't happen.

There was supposed to be one in 2003. They looked too high for a first year show and couldn't afford the fee for Sam Boyd Stadium. The show date ended up being a free day here for Phantom Regiment at the Flamingo.

I've said for years.............If Troopers moved to Vegas they would be back in the top 12 within a matter of years!

Really? I don't know about that. Even though Clark County has 1.8 (I think it's a little smaller than that) people they aren't drum corps type people. The town is very transient, very uneducated, and not into art activities.

Have you seen the marching bands in Vegas? They aren't the most note worthy bands I've ever seen. Remember, only 3 times has a Vegas band made BOA Regional Finals (LVHS '95, GVHS '96, SVHS '04) Now, there are some very good band directors in Las Vegas, and most of them want their bands to be great. However, they are handicapped by the type of town Vegas is.

Most of the high schools out there have between 2500-3000 kids in them, but the largest band program is only 170 (Coronado). This is due to the horrible Middle School band situation and the type of kids that are in Vegas. You should have about 10% of your student body in band. NO ONE does in Las Vegas.

Also, Vegas is turning into California. Housing prices have risen nearly 75% in the last 3 years. People there are having a hard time paying their property taxes, so a $1000 fee for a drum corps isn't a possibilty.

Just remember, Las Vegas isn't a town or a city, it's just casinos in the desert.
