SkyDog Posted April 11, 2006 Share Posted April 11, 2006 (edited) Do you have the end pieces for the gut assembly? You can use tennis racket string to replace most gut or synthetic gut snares. Measure pieces of racket string to the right length and cut 'em. Then insert the string into the snare endpieces, melt the ends of the string a little bit and mash the melted part to form sort of a ball or lump to hold them in place. The Blue Devils did this in the mid-80s to get a little bit of a different sound and I've borrowed the technique to replace guts on some slightly more recent Yamaha Field-Corps snares.
