Favorite Drill Move's

Recommended Posts

Name 3 of your all-time favorite drill moves.

Me first (in no particular order):

1. Cross - to - cross, Star 91

2. Horn line crab and 360 turn, Phantom 93

3. SCV spelling SCV on the field for the Carmen show in 90

(or anytime SCV spells SCV on the field for that matter)

Cavaliers fugue section in 2002

SCV's ending sets in 2000

and yeah, Star's crosses in 1991 were pretty #### neat.

two moves that I love because they seem so random and yet the design becomes perfectly by the end, and a third moment that is just as expressive as the music being played.

I haven't seen too much of the early years of Drum Corps, but these two come to mind as classics:

1995 Madison Scouts - the pinwheel followed by company front all the way till the end in "A Drum Corps Fan's Dream"

1995 Cavaliers - The "DNA" move in "The Planets"

In all seriousness, the OP nailed two of them. Cross to Cross and the Flying (Death) Wedge. My third would be SCV's collapsing Y in '99. Regiment gets a runner-up spot with the drum wedge forcing a hornline scatter in their '03 show. HM only because I couldn't think of a way to state it in 3 words or less! B)

For me, replace 2000 Santa Clara with final drill of 2004 Cavies

<Kirk> I... can't....justlimiti....to three!...I... just can't....do it...there are too many.</Kirk>

2005 PR: Follow-the-leader that morphs into another FTL that morphs into another FTL that morphs into yet another FTL.

2004 Cavaliers: Circle travelling through the block. Niiiiiiice.

2003 Cavaliers: Opening and closing segments.

2003 Cadets: Gear thing they did toward the end. Very nice.

2001 or 2002 BD: Tank treads.

2000 Cavaliers: Pretty much the whole dang show wows me.

1999 SCV: Folding block that refolds until it becomes a block again.

1995 Cavaliers: DNA strand move.

1993 PR: The crab step. Woot.

1992 Cavaliers: The drum solo was pretty sweet.

1991 Star: CROSS TO CROSS!!!!

1991 PR: The "W" pull...it's too bad they didn't show the company front very well, considering how freaking straight it was.

1990 Star: The last two minutes of the show (star to star to star)

1989 PR: The "W" pull, the wedge, the box cross-throughs.

1989 Cadets: Slow motion fighting.

1989 Cavaliers: Boxes to Xs to boxes.

1987 Cadets: The disappearing company front: Classic!

1987 PR: The Icebergs and the first and last sets (reverses of each other)

1985 or 86 Cavaliers: The snake.

1983 Garfield: The Z pull

That should do for starters...
