MADISON SCOUTS OR MADISON ALUMNI

Recommended Posts

I found myself enjoying madison Alumni corps more than the junior corps.

What do you think?

I know this is going to sound negative, but I hope the Scouts Alumni Corps never take the field again. I missed it, saw it about 80 times at the Stadium Bar on Madison and was glad to see the dvd, but I wouldn't want them to become cliche and a parody of themselves.

It's like Royalaires for me. First year I saw them in DeKalb, it was cool...subsequent years....it was YAWN. Same old, same old.

What makes an experience like the Madison Alumni Corps so special is the 20K or so fans who did see them live, saw something amazing. In 10 years, 120K people will have claimed to have been there.

Always leave them begging for more.

Drum Corps Planet is a really ugly place! The entire question of MSARP vs. Madison 06 is kind of sickening. I'm certainly no fan of Cesario-esque clone corps/uniforms, but even I would not ask such a thing.

Finally, Tom Brace, what a disgusting, nasty post. If you didn't like seeing the video "about 80 times", why did you voluntarily stay at the Stadium Bar? For some of us, it will never get old. Nobody forced you to watch it or even to join us in celebrating our once-in-a-lifetime reunion. Believe me, Madison had plenty of MSARP-free bars last Friday and Saturday with plenty of room for you. "Parody"? That's absurd, inaccurate, and impossible--it was five days ago.

What??? Disgusting? Nasty? What are you talking about. Reading is a skill. The dvd was on like 80 times in a row.

And I never...read this...NEVER said I didn't like it. Cliche...parody...only if the Project were to perform 22 shows next season, it would become those things.

Get it? That's exactly what made last week so important...a once in a lifetime experience.

And before you go ripping on a Hall of Fame inductee, I guess one could call your comments above disheartening.

Again, I think if you read the post again, you will understand...last week was cool and special...like an important milestone. Just like the first Royalaires Alumni appearance when I saw them in DeKalb.

Turn the propane tanks down long enough to read.

Well...thank you, thank you for that. But let's be realistic here... we had nostalgia, size and sound on our side. But the little brothers

had us by 1,000 miles in everything else. They marched more in their first two minutes than we did in our whole show. Those current Madison

Scouts were the most impressive, terrific and respectful guys one could imagine. My hats off to them all in a big way...

We made it a point to represent... and we did just that. It was awesome from our side of the front line looking at the crowd as well.

And Tom Brace... you are correct. It has always been... this is a ONE time deal. It could never work again logistically or realistically.

It required all the planets aligning just so (which they did) and an extreme effort and time commitment from those that put it together. The guys

who participated in the project had to use vacation time, family time, sick days and called in family favors to make it all work right.

We did it...we will stop there and quit while we are on top of our game. There is NO talk of doing it again... none.

The only thing that won't stop... for a while anyway... will be the talk about it. And if there are a few who are sick of hearing about it...too bad.

Don't click on the thread if you don't want to read or hear about it. It was the coolest thing I have ever done in my drum corp experience!!

Awesome pic of the Tenor Gods! Love it.

The other one is really cool too. How about the guy in his Scout envelope hat - so excellent.

Tom - I get exactly what you are saying. Scott Stewart told us the same thing. This is a once

in a life time event. If we did it every year, or even every five years, it would diminish the uniqueness

of what we accomplished with this. And I am one of the alums who sat there and watched it over

and over again at the bar. I loved it every time....especially because i was in it!
