Morgoth Bauglir
In Crossmen, guys(at least drumline guys) are encouraged to have facial hair. It has to look well kept and intentional though. No homeless guy scruffy beards. But gotees and such were encouraged if you were able to grow one. And handlebar mustaches are reserved for guys who have "lost it" or seen The Face :P Edited August 19, 2006 by Morgoth Bauglir
MarimbasaurusRex
In 1979 we were forbidden to play the theme from Captain Kangaroo under penalty of staff freakout.
BariEuph
.Must wear shoes at all times unless you're in the shower. gym showers would be the one place i would most assuredly want to wear shoes!
JimF-LowBari
Cattle Prod - Electrified rod used to move the cattle *zap* (I think) Rules from my 1970s DCA corps No drinking alcohol in uniform No pre-show alcohol at all No under 21 drinking alcohol or you are out Had a tradition that other corps shirts was OK during practices at home and no other corps around. At the show area, no other corps stuff in case other people saw you. But if anyone wore a shirt from our big rivals they usually heard crap about it. Except for a guy who made his own shirt with our rivals name on the front...... The back of the shirt had "SUCK" I collect corps pins and only chance I had when I competed was to buy them at shows. There I am at other corps souvie tables buying pins while in uniform. Had a lot of people ask me what I was doing and when I said I'm a collector everyone was cool with the idea. That includes my own corps. More than once I was on the field during retreat with another corps pin on my t shirt under my uniform. Pin could not be seen and it was the only way to get it home. Still have those pins too. :) Edited August 19, 2006 by JimF-xWSMBari
madscout96
Fart in uniform? How would anyone know who did it! That's funny! In retreat block, for instance... if you can hear the general direction it's coming from, like corps A's block, you know it was someone in corps A. Doesn't reflect (or smell) well. dbc03
Little known fact, in 2002 Crown was beating Spirit fairly consistently until a few of the members decided to tempt fate and start saying the M word.
Piper
"Lights out!" is one of the most common. One time we had a guard chick who went out by herself and found a disco bar. That was back when the drinking age was 18, and the guys were buying her rounds like crazy. She knew how to play the game. Meanwhile......back at the ranch.....the corps parents were frantic not knowing her whereabouts. She finally showed up at the housing site at 0400, and boy did she get REAMED! It woke up the whole corps. We thought they were going to throw her out for sure, but they beat so many tears out of her that it wasn't necessary. She never did it again. ravedodger
Freelancers: While in uniform: No cursing (at risk of being nailed in the shoulder by another member) No running No eating Guard members must be escorted at all times by a member wearing the cadet Sleeping: girls on one side, boys on the other About other corps shirts: If a member has the money, he should probably buy his own corps products to help keep the corps around (see Freelancers). All I bought was Freelancers shirts, bumper stickers, and issues of Drum Corps World while on tour. I also let the corps keep my deposit money. I guess the $50 in t-shirts and $150 deposit didn't help much. Edited August 19, 2006 by ravedodger
DrummerGurl21
No breaking other sections rank, no matter what we were doing (drill, ensemble, instrument stacks) No talking (except on breaks, this is more of a "while there are people around" and "in uniform" rule although if staff thought we weren’t getting anything done they would yell at us) Must be in groups of 3 or more, and members of other corps don't count No bad talking any other corps, ever No saying anything Mary would consider swearing when parents/volunteers are around Must wear a hat/bandanna when outside (visors don't count) No wearing jeans during rehearsal Must apply sunscreen, bug spray, nail polish and other fragrance stuff outside NO sitting on your kilt!! (You will get screamed at if you do)
