Walter
so what you are saying is that the 27th Lancers alumni corps, the SCV alums, the Bridgemen alumni corps, the Classic Cavaliers, and the rumored possibilities of the Crossmen, Cavaliers, Sky Ryders and maybe so many others who watched what we did and said "Hey... that would be great!" ... are (and were) all rude, selfish alumni who should never have done (or be talking about doing) what they did, because it is stupid and a waste of time? And won't you be the giant hypocrite someday if the opportunity comes your way and you choose to go for it? How 'bout waiting to see how many alumni, who have now found themselves renewed and reinvigorated, make contributions by indeed sending in alumni dues, or sponsoring a kid to march for a season, or get's involved now in a constructive way as a board member or instructor or support staff person or whatever. Your "Monday morning quarterbacking" here is doing no good to anyone, and proves no point with any certainty. My name is boldly emblazoned at the bottom of my posts for the world to see. Would you have the courage to sign yours?? Probably not, because like a troll...your intent is to come in and lob bombs and then run and hide. You make no real viable argument here, just a mean poke at something that was loved and appreciated by many. For all we know, you are not at all who you represent yourself to be... Here, Here !!!! Bravo !! The MSARP will probably raise more money selling the DVD, then they will if they would have just given the money to the Scouts !! Don't you think ??? lowend
Having read some of the OP's other posts where he extols the virtues of the Cadets 2006 program, I've got a feeling he's just taken a few too many bitter pills.
Marc66
AIN'T IN TIME WE CLOSE THIS ONE? The original post was obviously an attempt to get people's dander up...and, it obviously succeeded... However, as most people here know, Madison's Alumni are tremendously supportive of the organization, and show it with their dollars...plus, the Alumni Corps did more to stir the emotions and show the history of good ol' fashioned drum corps...plus, give the fans what they wanted... Lance
Interesting opinion. I disagree wholeheartedly. What the alumni did and do, both on and off the field, is nothing but positive for the corps today.
coloradocorp
Allowing a few weeks to pass . . . How much, on average did each alum spend on participating? If each alum spent, on average, (plane tickets, time off of work, food, etc, etc,) $500 (and that is a conservative figure, over a several week period) and there was 250 alums whom participated, that would be about $125,000 in toto ($500 x 250 = $125,000, double that figure and you have a quarter of a mil) just think what the Scouts could have done with that money had the Alums spent the money more wisely by donating it to their alma mater instead of having (RE)lived their childhood dreams (Peter Pan Syndrome???) which provided a rather "ho hum" crowd worth of 15 minutes of entertainment, by putting that money to better use??? (In other words, was it REALLY worth it, considering the legacy of the SCOUTS is in limbo). (e.g. corps are going belly up due to $$$ and the Scouts of late have had rumors about their financial stability--maybe if the corps had the resources we would not be having the discussions on this board why they are in the bottom tier and not vying for the top spot like the others) Hey Alum, you had your time, get over it, and provide the resources to the next generation. By "showing up" the new generation is unprofessional, and defintely not in the Scout Tradition--that being classy. What say you? Hey Sigga - your diatribe is tongue in cheek - I HOPE ! If you are serious, I would agree that perhaps the Alumni should have spent part of their coffers on getting you a nice room at the Wisconsin State Happy Home. So you are ready to blame the Alumni should the Scounts go 'belly up' - which they won't. Obviously you want to see that happen. The financial crisis for all the corps in the activity can be traced in part to each organization, but principally with Master Dean A and his cohorts at DCI - they are the blame for most woes in the activity including a lack of attendance growth. Get more 'butts in seats' at the shows and the corps will have fewer financial issues. Edited September 3, 2006 by coloradocorp
