Hottest Show?

I bet that was Hamilton. I don't remember my shoes melting, but I remember sweating

my butt off....it was easily over 100 degrees that day. (Which I guess is strange for Canada.)

I also remember how, even though Scott warned us about the 2 50 yardlines (CFL)

and the different hash mark placings, we still messed up quite a bit of our drill. It didn't

improve much in the evening performance. Oh, and then earlier during warmups, the

locals across the street were constantly yelling at us for making too much "noise".

That wasn't my favorite stop on tour. But then came Montreal. That was awesome!

In the summer time Southern Ontario can get much hotter than some US destinations. We deal with 7 Great Lakes in our area. The weather gets extremely hot, muggy, heavy, sticky, and very hazy. Hamilton has quite the industry in the area, with one main one being a sulpher processing plant. It smells terrible in Hamilton in the summer, you are breathing in more pollution than you should in a life time and it's extremely hard to breath.

Believe it or not, most places in Ontario are like this, especially in Southern Ontario. There is more dry heat in the Praries and North parts but it still does get quite warm there. In some cases it can hit 25c and above in the Northwest Territories.

I don't remember the year, but it was probably sometime in the early-90s. Spirit of Atlanta held their home show that year at Decatur High School. The stadium had no lights, so it was an afternoon show. In the deep south. In the heart of summer.

First on was a Canadian corps, which obviously wasn't used to the heat. About a dozen or so members fell out during the show from the heat.

The Decatur police stopped the show after that, and only after a long, heated (no pun intended) discussion, finally agreed to let the show continue, but only if the remaining corps performed in shorts and t-shirts.

It was 1987. As I recall, we performed, then one other corps (Star?), then they cancelled the rest of the show. The heat was brutal; the make-up on the guard girls' faces was melting.

Yes, it was 1987 at Decatur High School in Atlanta. As it was our home show, after the show was canceled, we (Spirit) went ahead and performed our show in exhibition. I believe we did it in uniform but without shakos, but we may have done it without the uniform jacket. That detail's a bit fuzzy now.

Jackson 92, DCI South Regional I think, was ugly. Prelims forced the lower corps to get up real early and do a run-through to be ready for their performances. We went back to our housing site and had about 4 hours on the floor in the middle of the day. I don't remember if we had prelims/finals on the same day or consecutive days. Anybody?

I suppose I should not mention what happened to Capital Regiment this past summer in

06'. I know for a fact that that (heh) was 110+ degree weather in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Supposedly, I heard it got pretty hot in the stadium during the show, actual audience

members passed out and had to be escorted out.

Rumor is (pure rumor) that it got 131 inside the stadium. I think it could have been that hot

because of the terf field. It's almost like carpet and it does not help with the heat.

But, what do I know...???

Dear Lord, Kansas was incredibly hot. I was going to shower that day near where Cap Reg had been rehearsing, and there were medics everywhere. 10 or some odd kids had passed out... I got questioned going into the showers if I was okay etc etc. 110 degrees, no clouds in the sky, and probably 80-85% humidity. I made a vow that day I would never go back to Kansas, EVER. =)

Also, show start 1 hour (I think) later much to the crowds' disappointment. Shade or no shade made no difference...

2006 rome new york ..it was a div 2/3 show then a div 1 at night.. luckily the div 1 guys didnt catch the brunt of it.. omfg!!! miserable.... but i loved the sprinklers =P

I will remember that day for the rest of my life. The night before, our semi got a flat, so we could only take with us what would fit on the buses. That was the horns and flags. No drums. So, the drummers had a laundry day that day.

So, we do the whole rehearsal and run-though in scorching weather without drums, wondering when the truck is going to get there. People are angry because I kept on telling everyone "just wait until we get up to New York. (I'm from Rochester) The weather will be wonderful!" Nope. Not a chance. This was also the closest I was going to get to a home show, so all of my friends were coming out. As we waited in the buses at the site, wondering where our semi was, I was getting really nervous. I mean, this is what my friends were going to see. The drumline hadn't played a lick all day, we had no unis or drums. What was going to happen? Just in the nick of time, the semi pulled up, we changed, did a quick warm up, went out to the field, and did a rockin' show, even though the weather was still miserable.

P.S.-I would like to give a shout out to the Westmoreland Marching Band for feeding us some fantastic food before the show that day. That was so great of you guys! If anyone affiliated with that school sees this, be sure to tell them how thankful we were for the food!

The Pittsburg, KS show was horrible. I remember at our housing site we were surrounded by lakes and it was 117 degrees. The air was saturated with so much water that it got foggy. No full run during that day for us. Then the show wasn't that much better. Its days like those that made us despise Kansas.

I have a copy of the newspaper from Pittsburgh, KS that day. The headline read "Don't Go Outside" Made an amusing additon to the scrapbook.

Yeah I thought of that one... I was in the audience of that show... looking right into the sun. It was a hot one and I wasn't even marching... the chick sitting in front of me almost passed out and they had to take her out of the stadium.
