The Glassmen

Recommended Posts

Glassmen 97-02 I would say were some great years and the corps was a fresh breath to the activity because they really came to challenge the drum corps world. Unfortuantely the staff during those years had moved on to other corps or other parts of life and never to be assembled fully again. My question would be why wasn't the Glassmen able to hold onto the staff. Why did Lee, LArry and Collin want to leave. It didn't make since to me, they were part of something special that could have gone much further if they had stayed together. All of them seemed to leave for corps that were not doing as well at the time. I think that would be a management thing. All we can do now is wonder why? I do hope some day the glassmen could be back there again. But my gut instainct is unless the glassmen do some kind of serious change in the way it is run I don't think they will be any higher than 9th.

I'll finally bite on this topic. I haven't responded to DCP since coming back from tour, but, figure it's time.

I hated Glassmen up until 05 and vowed to never march there. With the recent change in show style, I really enjoyed it and finally found myself as a member. Anyone who's ever marched there or been around, knows what a great touring experience the Glassmen provide, and should know that this year despite going out west, was no different. I've been around the activity a little while now, and this was a great summer. Looking into the future of Glassmen, things look very well right now, and if you weren't around during the season, it's too bad as you missed the foundation of things to come. The new brass staff is great. The guard was amazing as they have been for the past few years. And the young percussion did everything they were asked, despite being basically all rookies. With Sal back around, things are in the right direction for the corps I would think, and that's not just from some member who's saying it because he's there. The corps needs member retention though. That's the one thing that could take this corps up.

I saw them in Bowling Green in 72 and they had one of the nicest closers of all time ... 'The Sounds of Silence'. No pun intended.

Gee thanks, you brought back a memory that I had long ago forgotten. :) Yep, that was back in the day....for me! :)

BTW, I really miss that part of the drum corps show, the closer (exit) along with OTL (off the line), flag prez and concert

Sigh
