Blue Knights vs. Crown and Boston

Recommended Posts

Relax. I'll see Crown this weekend. I'll make sure I genuflect as they enter the field and avert my eyes to their overwhelming awesomeness, showering them with praise at every turn, begging for anyone to listen as I expound on why they're getting robbed in brass and should have won the Ott Trophy the last three years because their "sound" is so perfect. :)

(i kid...)

You are a funny guy. It is about time you came around.

lol

You can bet because they will all be at pretty close to the same competitive range in the end that Crown who has been scoring very well will have their score flatten out and that the Blue Knights and BAC scores will continue to climb. This is what has happened in the past and I think will happen this year. Even if it is not at the show in question. It's a fun season isn't it?? I can't wait to see all the corps in San Antonio, what a bad a@@ show that is going to be!!!

Now I'm a fan and a big supporter of BK, but why on earth does Crown's scores HAVE to flatten out and BK and Boston will climb? This could go in reverse or any other combinations of the three groups. If you have seen BK's show and from what I can tell that you have not, the concern I have with it is has a very down ending. It doesn't grab the audience and excite them to get off their feet w/ a standing ovation. I've spoke with some the kids I know in the corps about this (about 10--15 of them) and they are hoping for a change to the ending but at this point, and I sat with the brass staff the other night, there is no plans for any changes to the closer. The ovations have been more of the "polite" variety. Just a few more layers added here and there. I have watch the entire show w/ run thrus about 30 times and it is getting cleaner, but it is more of a question of getting it perfected by the time Pasadena rolls around. I enjoy the body movements and dancing that is now becoming a BK staple and I know many on here who do not care for it. Are the judges giving them credit for what they are trying to do as opposed to personally not being a fan of the movements themselves? Who knows, but if the choreography is dirty and distracting, I don't see them getting the love

Their score flattened out last night didn't it. :P J/K Seen the show, no, heard the show? yes. Do I think there is room for tweaking to be done to the end, yes, but I know Robbie, Joni, Matt and others on that staff and I gaurantee you they are smart enough not to make changes that are not necessary for this early in the season. I would pretty much guess that they would keep the product the same and clean making minor adjustments. In the end they will make necessary changes if needed, they always do!! Do I want a power chord or sixteenth note flourish to end with? Sure, but what they are doing is great. It is a great show and I'm sorry to say that my corps always gets Golf Claps. They could have the most exciting move in history like we did in th '98 Tchikovsky (sorry spelling) where we made a cool wrap around spinning block that wrapped everyone in and then unfoiled at 200 beats a minute, but it still got polite applause. It is who we are!!! We do not have the fan base that the Cadets, Cavies Phantom, Colts, Glassmen, Spirit, Crown etc... have. Because of this it has always been a lukewarm reception at best in the midwest and east, because frankly, they want to see their own regiional corps succeed, and why shouldn't they!!! We have always produced a very difficult and entertaining product, for even if a crowd member hates the BK shows that means that they (the corps) have still evoked an emotion. Isn't that what dark is meant to do??? b**bs ha ha ha. Trust me man your not telling me or anyone who has ever marched or watched BK anything new. We know we don't get the response of the crowd like the regional corps do. It is what it is, which is to say it is not going to make a darn in the end. Someone will say that the BK shows are only to please the judges and that is Bull Cocoa, it has just been the tradition of the Knights to make a different statement from all else and it has provided an identity in body movement, marching style, and fundamentals of sound. In the end, the BK show is fantastic and it may not win over crowd like the Regiment does, but then again who does??? Crown's scores don't have to flatten out, but they have almost been at an 80, and they will not climb into the same point ranges as SCV, BD, Cadets, Bluecoats, Cavies or Regiment. As time will go on these corps will widen the gap on Crown (who I love by the way) and that ussually means the top 6 scores climb and then the corps in the 7-9 range flatten out. If you follow trends, this happens quite often. Look at how well BAC and Crown jumped out of the gates a year ago only to flatten out in the end. It happened to us in '98. In NYC we were .1 behind Madison for 6th place at Giants stadium only to drop and stagnate in the end finishing 9th. It ain't how you start it is how you finish. If you say BK is dirty right now, I believe you, but a dirty corps scoring well right now is a dangerous animal!!! We'll see what happens, it is all in the spirit of fun to talk about these match-ups and I know Crown and BAC will be out to pay back BK for edging them out a year ago. It is a fun season shaping up!!!! GO BK KEEP UP THE DARK BOOGIE!!!!! ^0^

Why don't you ask your buddy supersop if he attended the show? He seemed to think the judges messed up, but I guess that opinion is ok because he's a big fan of Crown this year. He may have attended the show for all I know, I have no idea. And even if he or I did attend the show, who really cares? The show is over and there's another show tonight. I've seen Phantom's show. I've seen Crown's show. I have a good idea of where those two corps are at right now (and I've got friends who were there last night too!).

Just to clarify:

I think the judges bumped their heads because they are so concerned with slotting out the correct placement, they forgot to read the backs of the sheets. Having every corps drop by an average of 1.2 over night speaks to this point. My statement had nothing to do with who ended up in what place. I'm just sick of seeing them rate and play numbers games by leaving room for X corps. Read the sheet ... give the number based on the sheet ... and maybe then each corps will get the numbers they deserve based on THE SHEET!

Again, I don't mind the placements at all. I'm not a Crown homer .. nor a Cadet homer. I want to see all corps do well. I just want the judges to get their act together and to stop performing their jobs like this is BOA. READ THE SHEETS and SCORE ACCORDINGLY.

Allow me to be all Treebeard and tell you don't be so hasty. Crown has yet to beat any of the other six corps you listed in head to head competition (this year or last, at the least). I'd say rather that there's a solid top six, while Crown is firmly in seventh, scoring well above the corps below them.
