Bandettes Become Co-Ed, Remain Parade Corps

| |

On Saturday, March 11 the Board of Directors and the staff of the Bandettes Drum and Bugle corps met to discuss the future of the corps. Many ideas were brought to the table and discussed. After much dialogue, many decisions were made.

As of March 11, 2006 Bandettes Drum & Bugle Corps will operate as a co-ed corps for all youth and young adults ages 10 to 20 years of age. Younger or older members may apply and will be accepted, space permitting. This co-ed corps will function as part of the umbrella of the Bandettes organizations. We will begin accepting new male and female members immediately. A new name will be chosen for the co-ed corps. Names were discussed but none was chosen at this time.

For the 2006 season the corps will remain a touring parade corps. The schedule will be confirmed soon. There are several weekend and day trips as well as a two-week tour being planned. Theses trips will take us to Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ontario. For these parades and the tour the Bandetttes Jr. Corps will combine with the touring corps to form one unit. The uniforms for the females will remain the original uniform. Male members will wear black pants and a white dress shirt, with the possibility of adding a red tie or a plaid vest to match in the future. The possibility of returning to the competitive field was left open.

Recruiting for the co-ed corps will begin immediately. Recruiting will be by word of mouth, e mail, phone calls, and other free or low cost promotions. Local news organizations will be notified by the corps as well.

New members will be registered between 6:00 and 8:00 pm every Thursday at F. H. Clergue Public School on 80 Weldon Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. during weekly rehearsals. Also, new members will be registered at our next camp at the East Jordan High School or Middle School in East Jordan, Michigan on April 21, 22, and 23. Registration/ applications will also be taken through our web site at www.bandettes.org.
