Colts March 31-April 2 Camp Information

Early April Drill Camp, March 31-April 2 for Brass and Percussion (Color Guard is invited to fill drill holes).

RSVP today! Uniform item requests have been added.

This camp will be held at The Westwood Sports and Expo Center in Sterling, IL (1900 Westwood Drive). Fees for the weekend are $50 if you have attended a prior camp and RSVP, $60 without an RSVP since the last camp, and $75 if this is your first camp. Color guard members attending to fill drill holes will only be charged $20 to cover food expenses.

Unloading and registration starts at 8:30 pm and rehearsal will begin at 9:30 pm (opening meeting at 9:15 pm). Camp will conclude on Sunday by 4 pm. Parents and friends, if you would like to see the finale of the weekend, and the performance of what we’ve learned, plan to attend Sunday from 1-3 when we’ll put it all together.


Directions to the facility in Sterling, IL (as listed on their website www.sterlingparkdistrict.com/westwood.htm):

FROM THE EAST
Take I-88 West to Illinois 40 North (exit 41). Turn right on to Illinois 40 into Rock Falls. Follow IL-40 through Rock Falls and go over the Rock River into Sterling. IL-40 will become 1st Avenue once in Sterling. Follow 1st Avenue until you reach a T intersection (CGH Medical Center). Once you reach the T, turn left on to LeFevre Road. Follow LeFevre Road for about 2 miles until you reach Westwood Drive. Turn right on Westwood Drive and the Sports & Expo Center will be on your right.

FROM THE NORTH
Take I-39 South to I-88 West and follow the above directions.

FROM THE SOUTHWEST
Take I-74 West to I-88 East and follow the above directions

FROM THE WEST
Take I-80 East to I-88 East. Take I-88 East to Illinois 40 North (exit 41) and follow the above directions.

FROM DUBUQUE, IA
Take 61 South to 30 East. Take 30 East to 40 North (exit 41) and follow the above directions.

RIDES FROM DUBUQUE
We will be sending a van from Dubuque for Sterling. You MUST contact us in advance (email colts [at] colts [dot] org or phone 563-582-4872) if you’d like to ride. Anyone is welcome to meet us in Dubuque and ride or carpool with us. The van will leave at 7:00 pm from the Colts Center on Friday night. For those returning to Dubuque with us, we will arrive at the Colts Center by 6 pm on Sunday. If you need to leave later, but need a ride, please contact us with any questions or special needs.

FLIGHTS
Please let us know your flight plans as soon as possible! Members flying into this camp should fly into (in order of preference): 1) Moline, IL, 2) Chicago Midway, 3) Chicago Ohare. We do not guarantee a ride if you do not let us know in advance (meaning BEFORE Friday). Please make sure your flight lands before 7 pm on Friday and leaves after 7 pm on Sunday.

BUILDING SPECIFICS – WHERE TO GO WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN STERLING, IL.
When you arrive in Sterling, IL, please use the main entrance for the facility, which is building #1 and check in at the desk. You will then be instructed to bring your stuff to the multipurpose room, where we will be sleeping. The truck will be parked by Building #3 (they refer to this building as the "new building." We will practice, sleep, and shower in building #1. We will sew, cook, and eat in Building #3.

DRESS
BRASS MEMBERS NEED TO WEAR RED SHIRTS, PERCUSSION WILL NEED TO WEAR BLACK SHIRTS. Guard Members attending to fill holes should wear red shirts, as well. From now to the end of the season, plan to dress and bring layers of clothing! We are planning to be inside for the weekend, but from this point forward be prepared to march outside as well. You will want to dress in layers to make sure you are warm, and you may even need sunscreen. All should plan to have comfortable shorts and sweatpants so you don’t have to wear blue jeans.

VOLUNTEER PLANS – COOKS AND SEWERS NEEDED!
There will not be a parents meeting this weekend. We will be working on uniforms and flags this weekend. Please bring sewing machines, irons, and ironing boards! We will also have a few other miscellaneous projects, as well as continue work on the equipment truck.
