Drum Corps World Releases ’67 AL, CYO DVDs

| |
Sights & Sounds, Inc., publishers of Drum Corps World newspaper, released a new set of DVDs on March 15. Contained on the four-disc set are performances of the four senior corps and seven junior corps at the 1967 American Legion Nationals and seven performances of junior corps from the CYO Nationals two days later.
This material was originally recorded on brand-new technology in 1967 — a Sony Beta videotape camera and 1" reel-to-reel machine — by Mike Rounds who was on staff with the California Velvet Knights. He was sent to the East coast to film competitions so that members of the corps could see some of the competition they would ee when they made their first national tour the following summer.

The nearly 40-year-old videotapes are in remarkably good shape and the sound quality is excellent. The American Legion material was shot from the NBC color platform at Fenway Park in Boston, MA, on August 27. Two days later, the CYO Nationals was held in a stadium without permanent lights. The quality of the Legion performances is better than CYO because of the temporary illumination atop extension ladders placed around the perimeter of the field at the CYO venue.
