Spirit Of JSU Treated To Wycliffe Gordon Concert

| |

On Friday night of our March camp, the JSU Jazz Ensemble I with special guest, world-renowned jazz trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, treated Spirit to a special concert.

The award-winning Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Dr.Chip Crotts, also brass caption head for Spirit, performed a number of standards including “Three and One,” “Lazy Bird,” “Nica’s Dream” and “Old Man River.” Gordon then took over the second half, performing with the JSU Jazz Quintet and Jazz Trombone section, as well as closing the concert with his own big band tune, “West End Choo Choo.”

Dr. Crotts was excited to present this concert and feels strongly about using the resources at JSU to benefit Spirit. “Serving in this dual role at Spirit and JSU has allowed us opportunities such as this to provide the members of Spirit a chance to not only learn through the drum and bugle corps, but to also be around a professional environment and benefit from concerts and master classes such as these. This is a true benefit of our affiliation with JSU and we hope to be able to do more events such as this in the future to further enhance the musical experience students receive at Spirit.”
