City Refuses To Forgive Drum Corps’ $202,000 Debt

A debt of $202,000 owed to the city by the Hamilton Firefighters Drum Corps won’t be forgiven, but the band may get three months to try to solve its financial problems.

Grappling with declining parade bookings, increased costs and loss of bingo revenues, the 44-year-old band faces the loss of its Dartnall Road banquet and practice hall because of financial problems.

Yesterday, the city’s corporate services committee turned down a request to forgive tax arrears and an interest-free loan provided by the city to build the hall eight years ago.
