Debt’s A Sour Note For Drum Corps

The Hamilton Firefighters Drum Corps has drummed up more than $200,000 in debt and wants taxpayers to pay the piper.

Representatives of the marching band will ask the City of Hamilton corporate administration committee on Wednesday to forgive its interest free loan and property tax arrears of $202,463.

A city staff report argues against writing off the debt because it would "set a precedent that could have significantly unfavourable financial impact on the City of Hamilton with respect to $17 million of other outstanding loans."
