Three Cavalier Summer Camps In 2006

| |

The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps of Rosemont, Ill. will sponsor three camps for serious and experienced high school and Jr. high music students this coming summer. Two of the camps will be held at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. (High School: June 16-18, Jr. High: Aug. 4-6) and will include the introduction of a woodwind concentration, as well as the brass and percussion focus of recent years. The third camp will be located in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area (July 18-19) and will also include a color guard component, as well as woodwinds, brass and percussion.

"Students enjoy The Cavaliers’ summer camps. I believe one reason they find them to be a rewarding experience is because of the low student to teacher ratio, which averages about seven to 10 students for each faculty member. They also enjoy the final day interaction with members of The Cavaliers, as they participate in musical exercises, as well as play music from past performances, and sometimes even the current year’s program," said The Cavaliers’ director Jeff Fiedler.

Though not intended to emphasize the marching technique aspects, the two high school wind camps will concentrate on good playing techniques—whether sitting on the concert stage or moving on the football field. The two high school percussion camps will focus on the battery instruments of field snare, multi-tenors and bass drums, but will stress all-around musicianship while performing on the battery instruments. Percussion instruments will be on carriers, as well as stands during the high school camps.
