J.C. Caspers’ Kilties Kamp Report – June Debut Weekend

The Kilties experienced their first look at the world “Through Plaid Colored Glasses” over the weekend, and the view, while still requiring a little focusing, was one of togetherness, improvement, excitement and even a little adventure. On Saturday, we debuted our 2006 production for our local fan base in Racine at historic Horlick Field. On Sunday we made our 2006 competitive debut at the big DCI “Fathers Day Kickoff” focus show in Lisle, IL, complete with live streaming video of the Kilties going out to the cyber-drum corps community via DCI’s “Season Pass” program.

Our weekend began at Gilmore Middle School on Saturday where we were greeted by temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s and mostly sunny skies. I was prepared for a scorcher of a day, but in order to find the low-90s temperatures that the weather man predicted, you had to travel a bit further west away from Lake Michigan . The 1 PM stretching session was not followed by our usual basics block. Instead Visual Caption Head Bryan Butler taught us how to march ourselves onto the field. This actually doubled as a basics block, as we concentrated on our marching technique while practicing our field entry a few times.
