Let The Games Begin In Drum Corps Competition

There is excitement in Alan Cox’s voice as he describes the aural and visual explosion generated by a competitive-level drum corps.

“A drum corps is the most powerful, outdoor musical pageantry that you will see,” Cox said. “Most people think, ‘Nah, it’s just a marching band.’ It’s not. It’s fast-paced, high energy, beautiful music and gorgeous colors – with incredible impact.”

Cox is director of the Esperanza Drum and Bugle Corps, an 80-member ensemble of percussion and brass, accompanied by intricately orchestrated flag, rifle and saber maneuvers. The group will perform during the Esperanza Experience at 6 p.m. June 23 at Rancho Bernardo High School.
