Many find it difficult to understand why the 16-year-old Charlotte High School senior gave up a long vacation for three months on the road, sleeping on hard gym floors, showering in locker rooms and enduring a schedule of constant practice and performance for the Boston Crusaders drum corps unit. Or why she sacrificed attending her junior prom and school band banquet to participate in the Crusaders’ audition camps.
