The Brigadiers’ training and performance budget – which was as high as a bingo-fueled $880,000 in 2003 – has contracted to about $125,000 now.

Despite all the doubt, the corps never lost its focus on performance, said Scott Mescon, of Baldwinsville, the lead soprano bugle player, who joined in 1993 and rode the roller coaster ride of resurgence, domination and then near-extinction.
