Mandarins Announce 2007 Drum Majors

The Sacramento Mandarins recently announced the corps’ drum majors for the 2007 season:

Rachel Gonzalez is 18 years old and is returning for a second year as drum major for the Mandarins, having been drum major during 2006, her first year with the corps. She currently instructs the Reed High School (Nevada) winter drumline and marching band programs. Rachel is a Biochemistry major at the University of Nevada, Reno and plans to go on to medical school in Cardiovascular Sciences.

Santiago Sabado is a 19 year old Music Education major at California State University Sacramento where performs in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Marching Band on trumpet. Santiago teaches private trumpet, baritone and percussion lessons and is also the drumline instructor at Ponderosa High School and the pit percussion instructor for Elk Grove High School. Santiago plans to become a high school band director upon graduation. This is his second year in the Mandarins, having been member of the trumpet section in 2006. Santiago is also a black belt holder in Tae Kwon Do.

Irina Zevelyov is 19 and was born in Moscow, Russia, subsequently moving to San Francisco at a young age shortly thereafter. She is currently in her second year at UC Berkeley studying Political Science and aspires to be either in social sciences or a senator. Irina is active with the Cal Berkeley Band and is a winter drumline instructor for Del Mar High School and a concert percussion instructor for Emery Secondary School. Other interests include snowboarding and playing polo. This is Irina’s first year in the Mandarins.
