Texas Kingsmen Junior Drum & Bugle Corps Release

| |

Gulf Coast Drum Corps Associates (GCDCA) is proud to announce the formation of the Texas Kingsmen Junior Drum & Bugle Corps. The Corps will be based out of Kingsville and Houston, Texas. Christopher Chavez (former Trinity Drum & Bugle Corps staff member) has been appointed as Executive Director. Christopher comes in with an abundant and infectious enthusiasm paired with a meticulously designed plan for the next several years. GCDCA has full confidence that he will take this new unit far into the future with much success. Rounding out the staff is Andrew Herrera (Corps Manager), Gino Hernandez (Staff Coordinator), Noel Navejas (Visual Caption Head), and Joseph Dunlap (2008 Music Arranger). In addition to the new staff, the Corps has secured several rehearsal locations including a permanent indoor/outdoor facility to use for “all-days” after the Corps moves in prior to the summer tours.

“I am beyond blessed to be the Executive Director of the Texas Kingsmen. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Gulf Coast Drum Corps Associates for believing in my dream, a dream that will become a reality with patience and vigor,” says Director Chavez.

The Texas Kingsmen plan to field an exhibition unit in the spring of 2008 to help prepare the organization for a planned DCI Division III tour in 2009. The Corps will progress slowly, taking each step at a modest pace to ensure long-term success. GCDCA will be providing general guidance as well as financial and managerial oversight.

Gulf Coast Drum Corps Associates was formed in 1991 initially to run a circuit of regionally-based Corps. However, with the formation of DCA South, that focus has shifted towards building a family of performing organizations in the Texas Gulf Coast area. Bayou City Blues Senior Drum & Bugle Corps was the charter member Corps of GCDCA. Subsequent to BCB going inactive in 2002 several new units have been added; Gulf Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps (2002), the Gulf Wind Brass Ensemble (2006), and the Gulf Coast Sound Winter Guard (2006). In addition, GCDCA founded Brass on the Bayou in 2006, the first DCA show in Texas.
