VK Drum Majors Past And Present Meet In Hawaii

Imagine, you are me, Blair Lezcano, Drum Major for the 2007 Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps……all you can think of is, “I’m going to Hawaii with my band, I need to pack, make sure I have everything I need ……hmmm, let’s see, toiletries, check……..clothes, check…… instrument, check…….suntan lotion, check…….hat, check……….music, already memorized, check………cool, I’m ready to go, let’s hit the sand”…..

So, you jump on the bus at 3am at Canyon High School………get to the airport, board your plane. ”This is exciting…….going to Hawaii with my school, to compete in the Hawaiian Invitational International Music Festival……..for an entire week!!! What more can I ask for?”

All of a sudden, here you are……playing and being judged, my band director says, “Blair come here I want you to meet someone, this is Mr. Richard King one of the judges”…..I thought…..who?

Then I found out Richard King……was the Drum Major for VK in 1979!!!!! It turns out, he was judging the festival!!

Now, could it get any more exciting than this? Me, the first drum major for the returning VK and Mr. Richard King, drum major from days past brought together here, in Hawaii. It seems Velvet Knights are everywhere!

That just topped my week!!
