Speaking of the Membership Acceptance, Phoenix Youth Band Chairperson, Mark Govern explains “We are delighted to be associated with the British Youth Bands Association. BYBA’s reputation internationally stands alone and this is a partnership that we look forward to growing in 2008.

We would like to express our thanks to Paul Cartwright and Dave Milton for the assistance over the past number of weeks.

Since our foundation in 1992 The Phoenix Youth Band, Dublin has been among the leaders in youth music and marching in Ireland. Our mission statement is “to encourage a knowledge and appreciation of music for the benefit of the community, to educate and develop our students in the art, culture and performance of music & display; to perform to the highest possible standard”.

The band has enjoyed a successful and varied career, both on and off the competition field.

We are very proud of our competition record and some or our accolades are below. We have gained nine Irish National Final titles, currently unmatched by any other Irish marching band. We are Irish division II champions in 2005 & 2006.

We have to date entered three WAMSB World Championships:

  • 1998 London, England- gaining a Silver award
  • 2000 Calgary, Canada- winning a gold award with a score of 86.25 and placed 10th in the WAMSB table of results. We were the highest scoring band from Europe this year
  • 2003,Monza, Italy- attaining as score of 84.9 and also placed 10th in the WAMSB table of results.

In 2002 Phoenix performed successfully in three BYBA contests under the banner of “Allianz”

In June 2007 Phoenix will commence our 07’ Eurotour where we will compete in the WAMSB Open Euro Championships in Lokeren, Belgium. (www.mastersofmarchingmusic.be) and travel onto France to perform in Disneyland, Paris.

The Phoenix Youth band are active members of the Irish marching bands Association (www.marchingbands.ie) and are also members of the World Association of Marching Showbands. (www.WAMSB.org).

Paul Cartwright, BYBA Performance Chair, says, "following many weeks of discussions with Phoenix Youth Band (Dublin) resulting in their competitive entry into Brass Explosion, this paves the way for Phoenix to engage fully in all aspects of BYBA in 2008, as our very first overseas member band. This is very exciting both for BYBA and the Phoenix organisation, whom we welcome wholeheartedly".

In addition, Dave Milton Contest Director Brass Explosion said “We very much look forward to welcoming Phoenix to Brass Explosion Championships and doing everything we can to help make their visit an enjoyable and memorable experience”.
