In The News: Marching To Beat Of Tradition

It’s early in the school day, not even lunchtime yet, and 14-year-old Emily Nunn is already drifting off.

In the daydream, she twirls a baton so fast that it becomes a silver blur. She dances, moving to the rat-tat-tat of nearby snare drums and silky trumpet melodies. In her mind’s eye, she can even catch her baton in the dark.

"As soon as I get home from school, I’ve gotta start homework because I’m always thinking, ‘I have Blue Devils tonight,’" said Nunn, a Diablo Middle School student and member of an elite local color guard, one small part of the storied Concord Blue Devils drum and bugle corps.
