In The News: Youth Follow Own Beat In Drum Corps

Why would any teen pay money to spend the summer marching up and down scorching hot fields with enormous instruments strapped to their bodies?

For the love of it, say local drum corps performers.

A handful of local students, who are spending their summer performing nationwide with Drum Corps International groups, will return to Bakersfield on Wednesday for the annual Bakersfield Sounds of Summer show at Ridgeview High. Hundreds of students will do their best Wednesday to march, bugle and drum out the competition.
