In The News: Area Prepares For Drum Corps Championships

What was once the mere filler between halves of a football game is poised to take over the city.

While the Drum Corps International World Championships won’t march into town until August, local hotels are already booked solid for several days to house tens of thousands of expected fans.

During the competition, held on the West Coast for the first time in 36 years, drum corps from across the nation will march, dance and belt out tunes spanning everything from big band to Broadway starting Aug. 7. From more than 20 competitors, 12 will emerge to vie for the title at the Rose Bowl four days later.
