In The News: Competition Returns To MTSU

When Drum Corps International planned its 2006 summer tour of competitions, Middle Tennessee State University, a popular stop on the route, had to be abandoned.

"They were working on the football field," said Chris Weber, spokesman for DCI, the nonprofit event producer and sanctioning body for these marching ensembles. "We had to go to Cookeville and Tennessee Tech instead."

The loss meant more than a missing musical extravaganza for area marching band fans, it meant the loss of revenue for Murfreesboro. Besides the hundreds of band members, their families, friends and fans coming to town, there are dozens on the DCI staff who make Murfreesboro their overnight home.
