In The News: Drum Corps Spirit Of Past, Present, Future

Just by existing, drum corps shows draw a crowd. At a single show, these brothers to the marching band — brass, percussion and color guard only — include hundreds of musicians and marchers from the United States and other countries. They live together in buses and high school gyms for a summer. When they gather for a competition, they are a crowd unto themselves.

Such was the case at Tates Creek High School on Tuesday, when Drums Across the Bluegrass staged seven drum corps, plus their loving parents, starry-eyed siblings, old friends, aged-out members and biggest fans, the kind who seem to like the smell of grilled meat and sweat, who will follow corps from show to show.
