In The News: Drummer Performs At Cajun Field

Jessica Speer has been sleeping on high school gym floors in a different city every day since the summer began.

But, she doesn’t mind. The 22-year-old Broussard resident and UL music major is on a national tour with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps.

Lafayette will be a stop on the 135-member corps’ tour Wednesday when they, along with eight other ensembles, present Drums Across Cajun Field. The group, part of Drum Corps International, has played its way through the Eastern states and is snaking through the South en route to Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif., where they will compete in the Drum Corps International tournament to be held later this year. Last year, Phantom Regiment took first place.
