In The News: Marching To The Vatican
Amanda Larimore marches on her toes, tall and straight, her knees kicking high as she holds her baton in place, leading rows of girls holding flags, bugles and drums around the maze of roads in front of Hillcrest High School.
Amanda is the majorette for the Hillcrest Highlanders. She and her fellow Highlanders have been practicing five days a week, mornings and evenings, to master the rhythms and the high-stepping style of the girls’ drum and bugle corps.
After all, they want to impress Pope Benedict XVI when they march through St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican on New Year’s Day.
