In The News: Oregon Crusader Blows Past Physical Disability

Lukas Bratcher is a Crusader. He is also a pioneer.

Bratcher, 19, is spending his first summer as a member of the Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps—a feat in and of itself, but even more so because of his physical disability. Bratcher has a birth defect known commonly as arthrogryposis. Like muscular dystrophy, the rare congenital disorder weakens his muscles and joints, especially in his limbs and hands. Even so, his passion for music isn’t deterred. In fact, it is magnified.

Bratcher’s instrument is the euphonium, a deep and rich sounding brass baritone horn.
