In The News: Lodgings First Trial In Contest

This week, more than 5,000 percussionists will march into Pasadena’s Rose Bowl for Drum Corps International World Championships, but organizers say they’re having trouble drumming up sufficient local lodgings to house all the participants.

Dan Acheson, director of Drum Corps International (DCI), said his group has been unable to find lodgings in the San Gabriel Valley area for about 800 drummers, ages 14 to 22. Some of those participants might have to stay as far away as San Diego, he said.

The 2007 competitions kick off Tuesday and continue through Saturday at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena City College and the Pasadena Convention Center.
