Some invisible force has tugged them to this dark parking lot – 286 strong, from around the nation.

It has disrupted two years of their lives, demanded time and money and, to be honest, a whole lot of Advil. All for the next 13 minutes.

"I know my life’s been forever changed," said Donna Jackson, 47, of San Juan Capistrano, before taking the Rose Bowl field Friday with what was once the greatest drum and bugle corps in the world.
