In The News: Student Chosen For World-Class Marching Group
Doug Schaffer said he sometimes wishes he chose an instrument lighter than the tuba to play in marching band.
"Especially during ‘everydays,’" said Doug, a junior at Wright City High School.
Doug was selected to play in the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps, a group made up of high school and college students who compete in the Drum Corps International championships.Carrying a tuba around in summertime heat in everyday practices for up to 12 hours a day while rehearsing with a marching band can get pretty draining, especially for someone who’s just 5 feet 8 inches tall and 165 pounds, he said.
