Skyliners Beefsteak Dinner A Success
The New York Skyliners would like to thank everyone who helped make their Beefsteak Dinner so successful. The much-awaited event took place on Saturday night, March 29th, at the Dover American Legion Post #27.
Beefsteak dinner attendees starting gathering early, and seven decades of New York Skyliners were represented at this fundraising event by night’s end. From original New York Skyliner Joseph Rauschkolb, who attended with his wife, to a gathering of marching members from the 1980’s for an unofficial reunion, and members from recent years, this was a New York Skyliners party from beginning to end.
Friends from other drum corps, local Dover residents, people who found out about the dinner online, and cadets from West Point, joined the Skyliners. Some took advantage of the local hotel arrangements and transportation arranged by the Skyliners. The atmosphere was comfortable, friendly, and filled with laughter and remembrances.
The evening was a busy one, with the Mega 50/50 raffle and Chinese Auction taking place during the dinner, but there was plenty of time to mingle with old friends and meet new ones. The filet mignon dinner prepared and served by Baskinger’s Catering Company was delicious, substantial, and well received. The DJ provided good listening and dancing music, and helped us celebrate with New York, New York, a song that always brings out the kick-line. Listening to the N.Y. Skyliners end the evening with a rousing and heartfelt rendition of “Garbarina Mazarakos” brought chills, as it always does.
As a fundraiser, the New York Skyliners’ Beefsteak Dinner was a success for the field corps. Equally important was the opportunity for so many members, staff, alumni, friends, and family to enjoy a social evening with the New York Skyliners. See you at next year’s Beefsteak Dinner!
