In The News: VFW To Host Drum, Bugle Corps Memorial

More than 50 years ago, Mike Brown – who played the trumpet – thought it might be interesting to have an Explorer post with music, so the teen shared his idea with his father, Walt.

"He grabbed a hold of it right away," said Brown, whose dad – also a trumpet player – went on to found the youth organization that eventually became known as the Eau Claire Boys Drum and Bugle Corps.

Over the years, Brown, who went on to direct the Junior Prep Corps, which taught music and marching skills to younger boys, has met a number of former members who have told him how important their dad and the organization was in their lives.
